The Sinking City 2 Inventory & Crafting
What to carry, what to craft, and what to leave behind.
Resource management defines The Sinking City 2. Calvin carries a deliberately small inventory, loses dropped items forever, and depends on safe-room benches to convert scrap into ammunition and medicine. Understanding these rules early prevents the frustration of reaching a puzzle gate without a required key item or ammo type.
Personal inventory vs stash
Your on-person bags hold weapons, ammo stacks, healing items, key quest objects, and crafting materials. When space runs out, you must choose what to discard — discarded items do not return.
The stash suitcase in safe rooms stores overflow gear accessible from every other safe room you unlock. Standard loop:
- Explore until inventory is full
- Return to a safe room
- Deposit unused materials and duplicate weapons
- Withdraw mission-specific items before leaving
Emergency Relief Crates
Scattered through Arkham, Emergency Relief Crates permanently increase maximum carry slots. They are high-priority collectibles — more valuable than optional lore documents when you are learning routes. The demo includes at least one crate off the main path; consult Demo Walkthrough for hints without full spoilers.
Crafting bench recipes (demo confirmed)
Safe-room benches convert base components into consumables:
- Healing items from herbs and chemical agents
- Ammunition from scrap metal and gunpowder
- Utility tools such as wires or fuses when story missions require them
Crafting consumes materials immediately. You cannot undo a recipe, so double-check ammo type before confirming.
Dream Essence and talents
Dream Essence is a meta-currency found in safe rooms, optional investigations, and pre-order packs (Deluxe/Premium Field Kits include bonus essence). Spend it at talent shrines to unlock passive perks — reload speed, dodge mitigation, crafting bonuses, etc. Equipped perks use limited slots, so respec at safe rooms when a district demands different skills.
Quick slots and menu discipline
Assign healing and throwable items to quick slots (1–4 on PC). During combat, never open the full inventory grid — muscle memory for quick slots saves runs.
Dropping vs stashing
If you must free a slot mid-dungeon and cannot reach a safe room:
- Stash if a safe room is one backtrack away
- Drop only junk loot with no crafting value
- Never drop key items — main quest objects cannot be re-spawned if discarded incorrectly
Pre-order packs and inventory head start
Deluxe and Premium editions include Arkham Field Kits with outfits, bonus Dream Essence, and resource bundles. They provide convenience, not exclusive mechanics. See Editions Comparison before spending extra.

Late-game inventory planning
Full campaign previews suggest multiple ammo types and quest items competing for slots. Maintain a dedicated stash tab mentally: combat loadout, puzzle junk, crafting mats. Review stash before each district transition.
Speed crafting under pressure
Safe rooms are the only reliable craft stations. Entering a boss arena with uncrafted ammo is a common demo failure — backtrack before fuse puzzles if herb counts look low.
Vendor and merchant systems
No traditional merchants appear in the demo. Full game economy details arrive at launch.
Crafting queue discipline
Craft ammo before leaving safe rooms when entering combat-heavy districts — benches are not portable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is there item durability?
Weapons do not degrade in the demo. Durability systems, if any, will be noted after launch.
Can I upgrade weapons?
Attachments and story rewards modify firearms. A full upgrade tree has not been detailed pre-launch.
Do materials respawn?
Rooms turn blue on the map when fully looted. Farming usually requires leaving the district and returning after story progression.
